It's 2012!

We are well into a new year, and I haven't blogged for a while.  Things at work have been very hectic, and having had 2 colds since Christmas, I have been using the weekend to catch up on much needed sleep!
Over Christmas I did a couple of shifts at Creswell Library, which was great.  It's lovely to see some of the familiar faces that used the library when I used to work there.  Sometimes on a Saturday morning it can seem like a coffee morning, with lots of people from the village catching up with each other, talking about families and books and generally putting the world to rights.  We must keep shouting for public libraries!
School has been very busy and demanding.  The behaviour of the students continues to improve, although there are always the odd few who are determined to buck the trend.  We have started to process some of the new stock that we purchased at the end of last year, and are pleased to find books that we can't remember buying!  Jacqueline Wilson's 'Lily Alone' will go down a storm with the girls.

More on Thing 2

I have spent some more time looking at folk's blogs, and managed to leave a few comments.
It's frustrating that some people that have started off so promisingly have not carried on blogging.  However, school library blogs that I did enjoy are as follows:
The Vibrant Library (USA):  Reassuring that school librarians across the pond are doing the same things as us in the UK, such as getting involved in the curriculum and devising library lessons.
Scribblings of a School Librarian:  The writer of this blog explained how she had gone from part-time to full-time, and all the responsibility and stress this had brought.  I liked how, despite this, she still made a point of saying how much she enjoyed working with the students in her school library.
The Snow Days and Holidays of a Crafty Librarian Guider:  Great blog title!  This blog had books in it!  The writer had listed some of her fave reads (with cover pics) and also had a photo of a book display.  As if this wasn't enough, she explained 10 Ways to Get the Library Online.  Very inspiring.
I left comments on these and some other blogs.  Mainly to say thankyou and to be encouraging to the writers.   I have enjoyed reading other blogs, and am slowly getting into the whole blogging thing and finding my way round social messaging scene.

Thing 2

Am still attempting to work my way through the 23 Things.  Thing 2 says I have to look at other people's blogs.  I spent about 2 hours doing this the other day, and found it quite enlightening.  For one thing, some of the blogs are so pretty, but as I'm new to blogging, I haven't figured out how to customise mine yet.
I also noticed how many people had started a blog, but had obviously given up after the first couple of posts.  In contrast, some folks have written reams!
I looked at the blogs from school librarians, as these have the most bearing on my own job.

About me

Thing 1 says I have to put some information about me.
Having worked in public libraries for 8 years, I moved in 2009 to a secondary school library, which is a whole different ball game.
I completed my ACLIP last year, and am now beginning to look ahead to MCLIP, although due to the number of hours I work a week, this will take a while.

cpd23

I have officially started taking part in cpd23.  Am still finding my way round it, but have completed Thing 1 by creating this blog, and am about to move onto Thing 2 (very Dr Seuss).  I am going to read other people's blogs, hopefully to get some ideas.

WELCOME

Hi and welcome to me Silence in the Library blog.  The title comes from the excellent Dr Who episode of the same name.  In this blog, I hope to make you laugh, cry and smile with anecdotes from school library life.
